Here is what you need to bring to the Amateur Radio Exam.
Please make sure to have these items ahead of time, and if you have any questions feel free to ask, and we would be happy to help!
- Cash or Check made out to “ARRL” for $15.00
- A Photo ID
- You must have an FRN (FCC Registration Number), and a valid email address. You can sign up for an FRN before testing. Go to https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do then select register.
- Two number 2 pencils and a pen
- Calculator (With Memory Erased) Optional (NO Cell Phones)
- Upon passing, FCC will email you with instructions to pay $35.00 for license.
After you complete your test, it may take a few minutes for your exam to be graded by at least three Volunteer Examiners. They will let you know if you passed or failed the exam after scoring is complete.
When you pass your exam, it should take 7-10 days before your callsign appears in the FCC database, and that’s when you can start transmitting over the radio.
If you pass your Tech Exam, you have the option of trying the General Exam at no extra cost the same day. If you pass the General Exam, you also get a free (same day) try at the Amateur Extra Exam.
*All persons who pass the amateur radio Tech exam given by CVARC will receive a free one year membership to CVARC.
